A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR, FR. LAPERA
Dear Friends,
I am filled with joy and excitement as I write to you as recently appointed pastor for both Saint Gregory and Our Lady of the Snows Parishes. Looking back at a summer filled with many reminders of the vibrant community we share and the joy that comes from being together, I am pleased to announce in that same spirit a campaign that is close to my heart, titled "Doors Wide Open". I know that such an announcement has the tendency to stir uneasiness. If it is a capital campaign, it is followed by pledge cards, requests for substantial donations, and thermometer posters displaying progress. If it is a political campaign, it is followed by solicitation calls, months of ads, and the hype of an election. But this - this is a mission campaign. I want us to harness all the good that campaigns can and should bring about – a rallying community, a focus on the future, a promise of ‘better’ times ahead, and a renewed sense of hope and belonging.
At masses on the first weekend of September, we encountered in the readings the powerful image of Jesus healing the deaf man and commanding, “Ephphatha! Be opened!” This simple yet profound phrase resonates deeply with our mission. My friends, we need to hear Jesus who is knocking on the doors of our church, urging us to unlock our hearts and minds to His message. When we truly listen to God’s word, our world changes in ways we may find hard to believe—until it happens, and then it becomes impossible to doubt.
As we embark on this journey together, I want to emphasize the importance of Sunday Mass, where this welcome and spirit will truly take root as we receive the living presence of Christ in Eucharist. Your presence not only enriches our worship but also fosters a sense of community that is vital for our shared mission.
Together, let us commit to being a welcoming community, ready to open our doors to new opportunities that are on the horizon. Let us accompany one another on this path of faith, lifting each other up in prayer and support. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives. I know that Father Michael and the pastoral teams from both parishes look forward to walking alongside each of you as we open our doors and hearts to the transformative love of God.
